Amid much fanfare, Suzuki launched the updated Swift sometime back. The new Swift is Suzuki’s most successful international models, specially in Europe. The updated Swift goes on sale in UK this week for £9995 (Rs 7.1lakhs) going up to £13,245 (Rs 9.4 lakhs) for the top of the range five door automatic version. The Swift comes in four trim levels – SZ2, SZ3, SZ4 and the automatic SZ5. With Seven airbags and ESP as standard, the new Swift achieves a class topping 5-Star Euro NCAP safety rating.

SZ2 – Seven airbags and ESP, front passenger deactivation facility for airbag, electric front windows, remote central locking, MP3/WMA CD tuner with USB port and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.
SZ3 – SZ2 + manual air conditioning and 16-inch alloy wheels
SZ4 – SZ3 + automatic air conditioning, Bluetooth integrated audio unit, electric rear windows, push-button keyless start, automatic headlamps and cruise control as standard.
As expected, the new Swift gets a longer wheelbase (by 50mm) and is longer overall by 90mm. The 1.2L petrol engine with Dual VVT (Variable Valve Timing) on both intake and exhaust valves produces a healthy 92bhp @ 6000rpm which is just 5hp shy of Nissan Micra’s 97bhp Supercharged 1.2L engine. Torque is 87lb ft at 4800rpm. The new Swift is rated at 20+km/l in the European cycle while emitting just 116g/km CO2. Suzuki will also launch a tweaked 1.3L diesel engine that will cut emissions down to just 109g/km and return an impressive 24+km/l.
The new Swift is expected to hit Indian shores in the next few months but there is no official word from Maruti Suzuki yet. So stay tuned to Wheelosphere for more updates.
