Nissan adds second shift to cater to demand for Micra

Nissan Motor India today announced that it has doubled the production of its compact car Micra to 500 units per day by adding a second shift at its plant. The Micra currently holds a backlog of over 2,500 units and waiting period reportedly stretches to two months depending on the variant. The Micra initially had an order of 3,500 units of which 928 were sold in July. Nissan will also start exporting Micras to Europe next month onwards followed by other countries. Until last week, a single shift at their Oragadam facility could make 255 units per day.

Nissan will produce 80,000 Micras in the first year of production out of which only 20% is allocated to the Indian market although that figure could see a rise based on local demand.
