Nissan is stationing their 370Z in malls and showrooms across India promoting the 370Z that has just been launched in India and it also forms the core of their brand building exercise. We were present when the 370Z was stationed at the Citi Centre mall in Chennai on 27th and 28th February and what an event it was. Here is our full review.
The mall was crowded as always and 4-wheeler parking was very scarce. Nissan could have displayed the 370Z at Spencer Plaza but that is another story. Nissan aired plenty of ads in the local radio stations and newspapers, although we did expecte some sort of indication outside the mall as well.
The car was awesome though. It is one of Nissan’s best with the automobile world hailing it as a mini-GT-R. We completely agree. Its got a long history behind it and with those looks, it certainly turned heads. The crowd were glued to the car with kids not wanting to leave. The Nissan-hired photographer did take some shots of the audience and promised to mail them (which we are yet to receive). The attention to detail was spectacular onthe Z and it is one huge attention grabber.
The lights, the side indicators incorporated into the Z emblem, the tastefully crafted alloy wheels, the GT-R like roofline are typical Z. The 3.7L V6 is mounted up front with rear drive meaning plenty of tail-out fun. The car on display was a bright red 370Z with automatic transmission. There were three hosts and all of them were hired to take care of marketing the vehicle. We would like to add that there was nobody from the technical side to explain the features of the car. Many turned around disappointed as there was no specification sheet on display either. The hosts were hired just to keep the crowds coming.
Moreover, the LCD screen played only the launch video of the 370Z and not any interesting videos of Nissan. While the announcements in the loudspeakers started, we were expecting some explanations about the car and its lineage and technology but were disappointed at the games conducted (which were push-ups and counting numbers). Wheelosphere examined and stayed at the event for a long time and we observed that the Xbox game was running the Forza 3 game which children enjoyed playing and interestingly – some were discussing that the 370Z was actually rear engined (Do you really need such a comment Nissan??) with boot at the front. There were others who were discussing if this was a non-functional model. People were enquiring about the prices and were shocked on hearing the same.
Overall, the show was great and now that the New Micra is released, Nissan could add some videos from the launch as well. It was a delight for many kids to see the cars they had been playing in the games, for real. Nissan’s organising was well done and its brand image would have received a much needed boost. With their small car just months from launch, lets see what the Micra can do. Enjoy the pictures.
