Nissan is preparing in full swing for the launch of its small car in India. Nissan recently inaugurated its Corporate Office at T-Nagar, Chennai, at the hands of Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL). Also present were colleagues and officials from the Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL), Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India Private Ltd (RNTBCI) and partners.
The head office, located in Chennai will act as the Nodal hub for the southern region. Covering an area of 10,000 Sqft, the facility employs 56 people from NMIPL which is short for Nissan Motor India Private Limited and the headcount will reach 100 by next year. Till now, the main office was located at Mumbai and that will carry on these duties – serve as the regional hub with with key members of product planning team and homologation of NMIPL and sales and marketing team of Hover Automotive India Private Ltd, which is the strategic alliance partner for NMIPL in India while the Chennai office will house the functions of Programmes Management, Corporate Planning, Communications, Finance, Human Resources, After Sales and Exports team.
The state of the art plant at Oragadam will open up to the all new Nissan Micra in May 2010 based on the V-platform. The Chennai plant will also be the sourcing hub for the global compact car for over 100 countries, especially Europe and Middle East. Nissan, which aims to introduce nine new models to India by 2012, will have five locally produced at this plant. Chennai also plays host to the Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India Private Ltd (RNTBCI) which is contributing to Nissan’s global operations in the key areas of Advanced Research and Development, Advanced CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering), Product Development, Digital Vehicle Development, Information Systems Development, Indian and Global Parts Sourcing.
