Nissan Micra bookings underway; Specifications and details released

Wheelosphere checked out the new Nissan Micra at Sherif Nissan in Chennai and we must say that the visit was worth our time. The Showroom is nicely done with Nissan’s logo appearing bright and majestic both outside and inside the showroom. When you visit Sherif Nissan, we request you to notice this specifically.

Coming to the car, there was a bright blue model standing at the centre of the showroom and you do feel happy when you see the Micra sharing space with Teanas and X-Trails. All of the Micras currently on display across Nissan showrooms in India are pre-production models, so there definitely are lot of rough edges like inconsistent panel gaps. All that should be fixed on the production models. The car as a whole has a cheeky look to it and will definitely stand out from all the designs out there right now. It is definitely a love or hate look, something that Chris Bangle was famous for at his tenure in BMW. Walking around the car, things you notice are : the subtle rise in the roof at the rear end to generate headroom (it actually works!), the twin cuts on the roof to reduce weight and cut booming noise, i-key buttons, and the large headlamps.

Download the Nissan Micra India E-brochure. The pricing is expected to be Rs 4-5 lakhs, Ex-Chennai for the four models. Click here for pictures from Oragadam plant and Exclusive Geneva Pictures here. More details and images after the break.

Open the doors and you are greeted by bright beige interiors (on the top-end XV variant) and good amount of space. The driver’s seat is pretty comfortable with good cushioning and is easily one of the best in the segment while at the rear, it is completely the opposite. The rear seats lack proper under-thigh support (probably a reason why there is huge legroom for the rear passengers) while headroom for 6-footers is decent. The instrument console is good with all tell tales and on-board trip computer giving all vital read outs like Distance to empty and average fuel consumption. The control stalks for wiper and indicators are very solid as are the plastics and the way in which the doors shut just tell you how much engineering has gone in. The space overall is one of the best in the segment and is more than the Swift. The boot is also well shaped at 226 litres.

We cannot comment on performance, transmission and dynamics until we drive one so stay tuned while we get our hands on one. To taste success in India, Nissan need to improve their dealership network and we suggest Renault-Nissan tie-up to open combined dealerships to save costs and time.

  1. All black interior gives a devil’s look. At the most the dashboard may be black but the ceiling and sides in the interior must be silver gray even in XE model of Micra. this will give a pleasant look to the interior of the car.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. However, there are some who prefer black to ‘greige’, the interior trim colour, the XV comes with,

It has been quite some time since the launch of the new Micra and the hype surrounding it is slowly beginning to subside. Now it is time for the actual question. Was the car really worth the hype and is it truly a game changer for Nissan in India. Let’s find out.

First, lets get into some statistics. Since the launch of Nissan Micra, Nissan India sales have grown by around 20 times over the same period last year. Full credit to the Micra for the outstanding feat. Nissan, with its small network of 19 dealers, managed to sell around 1200 Micras in September. A ratio of around 60 cars sold per dealer. Well done Nissan. But in a market dominated by Swifts and i20s, is the Micra good enough to carry Nisan on its shoulders? Read on.
