Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMPL) announced the beginning of Micra Diesel variant booking through their 20 dealerships. Nissan Micra Diesel will be propelled by a 1.5ltr diesel engine which is being sourced from their French parent company Renault. This engine is currently doing duty in Mahindra Renault Logan, so not a new face here. The diesel powered Micra will clock 23Km per every one litre fuel it consumes and it could be a segment benchmark interms of fuel efficiency. There are two variants of Diesel Micra on offer, Micra XV and Micra XV Premium.
The basic diesel variant of Micra comes with driver side airbag, manual AC, power windows, music system and black interiors while the top end features climate control, 15 inch alloys, driver side airbag, push button start, keyless entry, auto retractable mirrors and beige interiors as features. Micra XV will be priced at Rs. 6.45lacs and Micra XV Premium will be dearer by another Rs.50K.
“The success of petrol variant of Micra in the domestic market has given us huge confidence to introduce Diesel variant within six months from the launch of petrol version. We are aware that this is a very important phase of our journey and we standby our commitment to provide Indian customers with a full range of products and services. We are confident that Diesel-powered Micra would fulfill the discerning needs of Indian Customers, said Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD & CEO, Nissan Motor India.”
Nissan Micra petrol variants were well received by Indian and overseas markets. Nissan Micra were able to gather huge bookings in India and many other global markets including Japan. Micra could be the best hatch for Indian cities were bumper to bumper traffic is very common. Anyway we think Nissan Micra Diesel variant’s fuel efficiency figures will play trick and will gather some quick numbers like it’s petrol sibling did. Though the formal launch date of Micra diesel is not known, it may happen before Christmas.

Nissan has forayed into the diesel hatch market by launch of the Micra diesel. But how different is the new car from its petrol sibling and will it be able to take the fight to the big boys? We do a fact n figure analysis…
The diesel variant is available in two trims XV at 6 lakhs and 6.45 lakhs for the top end XV premium. The car seems quite rightly priced to the normal eye, nearly Rs 65,000 dearer than its petrol variant. The XV premium variant gets a set of new sporty low profile tires with 15 inch alloys, a much missed feature in the petrol variant. A good new addition is of the body colored rear spoilers, which lends a much sportier character to the car. It also gets a leather cover for the seats and gear knob as well that justifies its premium branding.
