Auto Evolution reports that the new 4th generation Nissan Micra would be a definite hit worldwide as Nissan plans to price it at an unbeatable level. The prices quoted for the Australian market are AU$ 13,500 which roughly equates to Rs 5.6 lakhs, which AE say are comparable to the prices of Hyundai i20, Holden Barina, Kia Rio and Toyota Yaris. While at that price the Micra has no market in India, the prices for international markets are higher due to import taxes, logistics charges, a longer equipment list and standard safety features like ABS and airbags.

The aim of such a low price is to triple, or even quadruple the sales of the model. According to Nissan Australia CEO Dan Thompson, talking for GoAuto, the Micra currently sells around 400 units a month in Australia. “Micra is the first breakthrough all-new core model to be introduced in 2010, that will take us from a state today where Nissan only plays in a very small niche part of the light segment, specifically as our current K12 Micra is a five-door auto-only,” the CEO said.
The new Micra will be initially manufactured in India and Thailand and sold in 160 countries. The new Micra is longer and spacious while lower and lighter than the previous generation model. While India will get the naturally aspirated model with 80ps and 108Nm of torque, Europeans can choose from a Supercharged variant of the same engine producing 98ps and 142Nm of torque. Both units will be made available with a 5-speed manual gearbox or Nissan’s all-new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Even the normal version can do 180km/h – watch that video here. We are just two months away from the Micra’s India launch sometime in July. Stay tuned till then.
