Nissan Micra’s production comes to an end in the UK

23,68,704 Micras have been produced in Sunderland since 1992

Nissan’s Micra has finally gone out of production at its Sunderland plant in the UK on Friday after 18 years. The last Micra rolled out of the plant on Friday night. Micra’s production in the UK began as early as 1992, 10th August 1992 to be exact. The Sunderland plant produced two generations of the small car – the K11 and K12. Nissan produced as many as 14,00,000 K11 Micras between 1992-2002 and almost 10,00,000 K12s since 2002 including 31,000 Coupe-Convertible variants. By Friday night, the total count would have hit 23,68,704 Micras contributing to more than 40% of the plant’s production, that also makes the Note, Qashqai and Qashqai +2.

Nissan moved the production of the Micra to many sites across the world with the Indian plant in Chennai supplying Micras to Europe. Micra will be replaced by a new crossover – the Juke next month.
