Nissan’s long awaited global sedan is almost here. Spy pictures from China show the front which is very similar to the Altima found in USA while the rear is very much like the older Teana. Look closely at the rear view and you can notice that the new sedan has been named Sunny, at least for the Chinese market. Codenamed L02B, the new global sedan, like the Micra will be sold in several countries across the globe. The spy pictures also show the interiors which are similar to that of the Micra save for rectangular air conditioner vents as opposed to circular ones on the hatchback.

The pictures also show two different versions with black and beige interiors. Beige interiors work well in India and we expect the higher trim levels to have them. Although the doors are new, the door handles are similar to the Micra. The secret to the new sedan is commonisation of parts that are not visible and hence unlike the hatch turned sedans present in India, the new Sunny sports a completely fresh look. Our source reports that the Sunny will get a 1.8L MR18DE petrol engine to take on the Honda City while a 1.6L petrol will do duty in the lower end variants. In India, we can safely expect the 1.6L petrol engine and a 1.5L diesel borrowed from the Logan.
The Sunny will make its debut in India in the second half of 2011 which we think is late as the Etios and the new Fiesta would have already made their mark in India by then. However, with a good overall package (read styling, quality and engines) and improved dealer network, we think Nissan can crack the sedan segment specially since the Sunny is expected to be competitively priced. Rumours suggest Rs 6.5 lakhs Ex-Showroom for the base model!
The All New Sunny will be launch at Guangzhou Motorshow in December 2010.
