Over 300,000 K-Series engines produced by Maruti so far

Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday announced that it had reached the milestone of rolling out its 3,00,000th K-Series engine. The K-Series engine is available in two forms in India – The 3-cylinder 998cc K10B that powers the A-Star, Estilo and the all new WagonR that will be launched on April 23rd and the 4-cylinder 1.2L jewel of an engine that powers the Ritz, Swift and  Dzire. Maruti has achieved this feat in a time span of just 19 months. Maruti’s entire engine production capacity is 10 lakh units per annum of which 25% of the engines produced belong to the K-Series.

“Going forward, the K-series engine will play a key role in Maruti Suzuki’s strategy in consolidating its leading position in the Indian automobile sector,” the official said. Apart from the cars which already sport the K-series engines, it will be progressively introduced on other models as well over a period of next three to five years, he added. Besides the K-Series, Maruti also produces the 1.3L G13B for the Eeco, F-series fitted in the 800, Alto and Omni and M-Series that powers the SX4 sedan.

“Our engineers recently crossed the 1,600 engine/day production level. This is a significant development as well. Going forward, this number is set to grow further,” the official said. Last year Maruti announced an investment of up to Rs 1,500 crore on doubling capacity of the Gurgaon plant to produce five lakh K series engines annually, besides setting up a R&D centre at Rohtak.
