Peugeot, the second largest European auto maker is all set to enter Indian subcontinent. In their second spell, Peugeot-Citroen will operate from Sanand, Gujarat. While company has not started construction of their manufacturing facility, product development team has already started testing of prospective products for our market. In India, Peugeot-Citroen will adopt “Top Down” approach by beginning with high end models and later introduce high volume products. The same strategy was tested and succeeded by VW India. As we said earlier Peugeot’s initial product line up will include a sedan and hatchback. While the sedan offering could be Peugeot 508, the hatchback will be Peugeot 207.
Peugeot India has already started testing above said products in India to make required changes (if required) in these products. Peugeot 508 was debuted in 2010 Paris Motor Show and will be the first product for Indian market from Peugeot family. This D-segment sedan is expected to compete with Honda Civic, Skoda Laura and Toyota Corolla. Currently Peugeot is offering a wide variety of engine and transmission combination in international market. We need to wait and see the exact product specification of Indian variant of Peugeot 508.
All car manufacturers understand our affinity towards hatchback cars. Peugeot after their short break from Indian market is ready with a hatchback offering as well. Peugeot 207 will be here to take on Suzuki Swift, VW Polo and Hyundai i20. This French beauty comes with an unique styling and aesthetics characteristics. In the overseas market Peugeot has a variety of engines. So here too we need to wait to get further information.
We will keep an eye on this develop and update you in coming days. By the way do you think Peugeot’s Indian re-entry will be a smooth affair..? We think unless they have something extra ordinary on offer it will be too tough for them. Anyways enjoy the photographs of the Peugeot 508 and Peugeot 207 duo.
