PSA Peugeot Citroen will set up their Indian shop faster than expected. In past Peugeot officials had disclosed their plans to enter Indian subcontinent in big way. According Financial Express, PSA Peugeot Citroen will announce their Indian operations plans in new year. PSA Peugeot Citroen chief executive officer Philippe Varin said “We will probably have something to say in January or February.”
PSA Peugeot Citroen, the second largest European car manufacturer earlier indicated their plans to enter through Mitsubishi Motors. But that plans did not materialise as the discussions between both of them ended without yielding any result.
Peugeot is not a new player here, they had a joint-venture with Premier Automobile ltd, till latter signed an agreement with Fiat SpA. “the Peugeot brand has been in India before so it already has some history there,” Varin said.
A successful entry to Indian market will be beneficial for PSA Peugeot Citroen in long run. Their rivals, VW, Toyota and Renault are already here and they are all set to to enjoy a pie of lucrative Indian car market. The western car market from where PSA Peugeot Citroen earning their major income is already saturated. This scenario forcing Peugeot to rush to India. If their plans go well, PSA Citroen will invest 700 million euros to build a plant with annual production capacity of about 100,000 vehicles. PSA Peugeot Citroen is in the process of identifying suitable location for their shop.
In short Indian roads will see PSA Peugeot Citroen’s nicely designed sub compacts and hatchbacks in near future. Details about Peugeot’s possible Indian offerings are still awaited, so stay tuned to Wheelosphere for more updates.
