With the launch of the Micra just around the corner, Nissan is gearing up with an extensive advertisement campaign including the print, banners, television commercials and radio. To help spread the Nissan brand name to the Indian population, Nissan has roped in Bollywood dude Ranbir Kapoor to endorse the brand and its services for a period of three years. We would also like to mention that Nissan had earlier roped in Narain Karthikeyan to launch their acclaimed 370Z and also presented him their flagship GT-R. Ranbir Kapoor will primarily endorse the Micra which will be launched on July 14. Can Ranbir do what Shah Rukh Khan did to Hyundai’s Santro? We have to wait for some more time to get the answer. Nissan say that the response to the Micra has been very encouraging with their showrooms experiencing increased foot falls.
“With the launch of the new Nissan Micra next month, Nissan will begin an exciting journey in India aiming to provide Indian customers with a full range of products and services. We are confident that Ranbir would act as a perfect catalyst to communicate our brand attributes and also enthrall the Indian customers bringing them alive through his persona and charm”, said Mr. Tokuyama, MD & CEO Nissan Motor India private Limited. At the same time, the tentative prices of the Micra seems to have hit the media. Hit the jump for prices and Wheelosphere’s comprehensive coverage of the Micra.
Nissan will launch the Micra is four variants called XE, XE+, XL and XV. It will come with a 75bhp 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The brilliant K9K 1.5L diesel will join the lineup towards the end of 2010. A CVT is rumoured to be heading to India in 2011. The unique features for each model are :
XE – Drive computer, AC, Electronic power steering, Tilt adjustable steering, Driver airbag
XL – Rear wiper & washer, Tachometer, Power windows (all), Central locking, Remote keyless entry, Four speaker audio system
XV – Electrically adjustable door mirror, Automatic climate control, Push button ignition & security alarm, Front dual airbags, ABS, EBD & brake assist, Front fog lamps, i-key
The biggest surprise is the price which has been tentatively pegged at Rs 3.75, 4,25 and 4.65 for XE, XL and XV respectively Ex-New Delhi (Source for prices : ET). If the prices mentioned by ET are even close to the real ones, then we can expect a tough fight in the hatchback segment (with a 1000+ sales for the Micra every month) with only Nissan’s sales and service network being the limitting factor.
