Renault Dacia Duster, the low cost SUV from French-Romanian partnership is getting more economical in Europe. Duster is now available with a factory fitted LPG Kit at an additional price. The LPG kit fitted Duster is expected to give 40% saving on fuel expense. The incremental cost of Duster LPG variant compared to it’s petrol variant is negligible. A factory fitted LPG Kit of Renault Duster comes at 800 Euro ( approx Rs.52,000) and it will be recovered once the odometer reads 20,000 kilometers. But remember Europeans enjoy an additional tax benefit for LPG powered cars.
Renault has attached LPG kit to their 1.6ltr gasoline engine and planted it in Duster. The engine produces 105 hp peak power once it fed with gasoline, the same engine will produce 102 hp in LPG mode. The difference is power output is negligible compared to the cost saving during operation. The Duster LPG consumes approximately 9.1ltr of gas for every 100 kilometers so the fuel efficiency comes to 11 kms/ltr. The Duster LPG will clock 0-100 kmph in 12.8 seconds with a top speed of 162 km/hr. The switching between LPG and gasoline can be done by a knob placed in the dashboard.
Back in India, in their second innings Renault is expected bring Duster by mid of 2012. Duster could be company’s fourth product in the portfolio and will follow Pulse. Indians are known for their affinity towards diesel cars. Due to widening gap between diesel and petrol prices the same trend is expected to continue in coming years as well. During it’s debut in India, Renault Duster is expected to get 1.5dCi (diesel) engine and 1.6 ltr petrol engines. So do you think Renault will add this LPG kit to India variant of Duster as well? If it happens, Duster could be first SUV with a factory fitted LPG kit. It is too early to predict so stay subscribed to Wheelosphere for more updates.
