Renault-Nissan: Hand-in-Hand, they march ahead!

Nissan India Cars

Renault-Nissan are having big plans for India. Carlos Ghosn has made good strategies for 2011-2012. We thought Nissan will always be the one with their tag of one of the least selling brands in India with their CBUs, but now Nissan has reworked their  plans to get a reasonable market share in Indian car market.

Nissan is already doing its best ever sales in India after it launched Micra hatchback. For the 1st time Nissan sold in 4-digit sales due to Micra. Also, last month Micra diesel was also launched with Logan’s diesel engine to gain more sales. Renault-Nissan are working together to achieve 5% market share of India within upcoming 2-3 years. Both the companies have good investment plans for gaining market share in various categories of cars. Together they want to clear every segment and gain their market share. Last year Nissan had announced to launch 8 new products in one year, but we all know they didn’t, nor was it possible. As of  now Nissan has 4 models in their Indian  portfolio.

Nissan Motors is planning to launch the Nissan Sunny by Mid-2011. Nissan says that Sunny would arrive India with a different name. Also, Nissan wants to gain dominance in Premium car segment. Nissan wants to increase its Teana sales by bringing it as Semi-Knocked Down kits in India and making it cheaper. Also, Nissan plans to foray into commercial sector by launching NV200 utility vehicle. NV200 has been spotted testing in Chennai several times. As we reported earlier, Nissan has already working on a small car which will sit below their Micra.

Renault is currently very slow with its highly dropped Logan sales. But next year Renault is going to work alone, without Mahindra. Renault has already started publicizing its sole proprietorship in magazines and its website. Renault is going to launch Fluence in India May 2011. By April, Renault will start assembling CKDs of Fluence and in May it will go on sale. Renault will bring the Fluence with 2.0L petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. This will be the first step of Renault in India. Fluence will be a CKD and will be assembled at Renault’s premises in Chennai. Also planned is Koleos crossover. After Fluence, Koleos is expected to arrive near October 2011. Koleos will be expensive as it will be a CBU. But then yes, Renault is planning to take a good in Indian Premium market. Renault is actively considering their cheapest SUV offering Duster for India.

Renault-Nissan is planning to launch 9 new models by 2012 and is expecting to sell 70,000-75,000 cars by 2013-14. They are also planning to create 70 dealerships by 2013 from current 22. Altogether the company has good plans of new products and localized products. Also company hopes to have good earnings from exports. Nissan has already exported more than 15000 Micra. Let us hope this time the plan goes timely and successful!
