Sauber Petronas F1 2010

Its official. BMW have sold back their F1 team to Sauber Petronas thereby putting an end to the deal with Qadbak. So its the revival of the trademark blue-green-yellow liveried car that saw future champions like flying Finn Kimi Raikkonen drive for them before he switched to Mclaren.

“We are very happy with this solution. This fulfils the most important requirement for a successful future for the team. Our relationship with Peter Sauber has always been excellent and marked by absolute respect. We would like to express our thanks to Peter Sauber and the whole team for the excellent cooperation during the recent four years,” said Dr Klaus Draeger, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

Peter Sauber also added, “I am very relieved that we have found this solution, it means we can keep the Hinwil location and the majority of workplaces. I am convinced that the new team has a very good future in Formula 1 whose current transformation with new framework conditions will benefit the private teams.” The rules of the agreement also propose a cut in the number of employees from 388 to 250.

This leaves the 2010 F1 grid with 13 teams and 26 cars and that should make one crowded and action packed season! What’s more, Sauber Petronas is likely to be the title sponsor after Peter Sauber’s aquisition of the team. So the Malaysian team returns!
