Skoda Fabia was launched back in January 2008 . This was the first premium hatchback to be launched in the Indian market followed by Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and so on. Skoda during the first few months was able to roll out few Fabia’s from its showrooms but later as time progressed the situation became worsening due to competition and hefty price tag for its hatchback .
Skoda now in 2010 awakened itself seeing the premium hatchback scenario grow by leaps and bounds decided to re-launch the Fabia with a competitive price tag. Now the Czech company did realize that if its sister concern VW could sell polo’s in thousand of no’s why can’t they, despite of both being built on the same platform. The first thing which you notice after seeing the all new 2010 Skoda Fabia is that where are those projectors, sunroof, rear washers gone from the elegance variant but all this has happened due to cost cutting . Now we get the same tank like built at a lower price tag which can bring a smile on the face of customers who intend to buy a Skoda at a Korean price tag though the quality still being the same .
The moment you sit in the car you notice the all new steering burrowed from the Laura with those striking chrome dials. On the inside part now you get a stereo with 2 set of speakers which previously was only with 1 set. Also now the Fabia no more has the internally adjustable OVRMs , you gotta set it manually from the knob located at the door.
Coming to the engine part its the 1.6 litre engine which is doing duty in the VW Polo as well as Jetta , so reliability of this engine is already being tested months back as their have been no issues of stalling as the previous 1.4mpi was subjected too. The car pulls well but you have to strain it a bit though. With its 153 Nm of torque which is more then the Honda city (though it belongs to separate league), but this engine also has far more torque than all its hatchback competitors.
Driving it for an hour I was relieved that this engine no more like previous Fabias felt sluggish, it has the ability to cross a ton mark in just 11.4 sec , even at high speed you feel you are going slow. Speeds around 140 felt as if you are doing in 90′s or 100′s this is the beauty of German engineering.
About transmission, the throws are precise and slick, this car has one of the best transmission among all the hatchbacks. Power delivery for the car is quite linear you cannot feel any sudden surge of acceleration or the rpm needle climbing rapidly. The mileage for the car which one can expect is about 11-14 km/l which is quite reasonable.
Skoda, this time we are pretty sure that you didn’t go wrong and in coming days you will move out Fabias in 1000′s from your showrooms.
