Land Rover’s LRX has been caught testing for the first time ever since the model was announced. The best part is that the LRX has retained most of the styling of the show car shown at the North American International Auto Show in 2008. The spy pictures were taken near Land Rover’s HQ in Midlands. A total of 10 prototypes have been made, each believed to be different from the others. The production version of the LRX will debut at the Paris Motor Show 2010.
Moreover, LRX is only a codename for the baby Land Rover and its real name is yet to be decided. It will be built at land Rover’s Halewood plant and for the first time in land Rover’s history, the LRX will be available in two wheel drive as well. Similar in size of a Golf, the LRX will be positioned as stylish alternative. A revised version of the Freelander’s drivetrain will be used while Peugeot-Citroen sourced 2.2L 185bhp Turbo-diesel coupled with a standard 6-speed manual transmission will do duty in the LRX. Front Wheel Drive variants will emit less than 130g/Km while the figure rises to 140g/Km for Four Wheel Drive models.
The LRX will be launched next year with prices starting from £ 30,000 (Rs 18 lakhs) and add £ 5,000 for 4WD models. We dont expect the LRX to be sold in India as it is it will be very small for the price it is being offered at.
