Spy shots of Lamborghini’s next monster supercar

These are the latest spy pictures of Lamborghini’s replacement of its flagship Murceilago. We had the normal Murceilago followed by the roadster, LP 640, LP640 roadster, Reventon, LP 670-4 and finally the Reventon roadster, which is the final version of this model which won fans merely by its looks and fiersome performance. Now though, it will have to be replaced by an all new model which is under development.

With competition hotting up from Ferrari, Mercedes and now Mclaren, Lamborghini will have to make an absolute stunner to be in competition. This is a test mule of the next gen Murceilago wearing the older body style but the large Mclaren style air vents behind the doors give this away as an all new model. The new model will crucially maintain the same configuration with an all new 7.0L V12 rumoured to be in the works producing somewhere around 700-720bhp. This is against the trend of downsizing and forced induction as followed by other car makers. What will please enthusiasts though is the adoption of a normal gearbox as opposed to the dual clutch which Lamborghini say robs the driver of feel.

With such power, performance will be breathtaking. What will make the experience even more scary is the reduction in weight. The new model is expected to weight around 1500Kgs due to the adoption of the R8’s aluminium spaceframe. Styling is expected to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary with lots of touches from the Estoque and Reventon finding their way. It will also sport a wider track and shorter overhangs (god save the narrow streets!)

While a hybrid system is rumoured to be in the works as hinted by CEO Stephan Winkelmann. Does this mean that a true ‘Green’ Lambo will debut?
