BMW certainly felt the heat from the new Mercedes Benz E-Class which has become India’s largest selling luxury car in a matter of months. The new E-class sold 255 units in March while the 5 could only manage 183. BMW even lost the top spot to Mercedes in January although it has regained that back, thanks to the BMW 320d Corporate edition. To show Mercedes who the boss is, BMW has advanced the launch of its stunning new F10 5-Series by atleast two months (read our earlier report here) and the new model will now be launched on April 30th. It comes to India after going on sale in Europe few months back. You can have a look at the spy pictures that we have got courtesy Team-bhp that show the F10 5-Series in Pune, probably on its way to ARAI for homologation.
BMW is synonymous with speed and agility and BMW India have rightly demonstrated their ability by re-jigging, re-tuning their assembly line and importing CKD kits in record time to bring us the new 5-Series much ahead of schedule. That is BMW’s commitment to India for you.

We are still unsure of the variants that BMW will initially launch in India. The bestselling 520d will be here, boosted to 184bhp (from 177bhp of the earlier model) while the 535i and 530d will also make it to compete with the E250CDi and E350CDi. BMW might even think of importing the range topping 550i just to cater to enthusiasts and at the same time showing Mercedes who the boss is. Prices will be competitive with an asking price of around Rs 40 lakh for the base 520d. You will get a lot of kit for that amount, a lot of which is borrowed from the new 7-Series.
With the all new F10 waiting in the wings, the battle in the luxury segment will only get fierce. So who will eventually win? Follow us to know who the winner is.
