Well not really. But the hatchback is all set to go the EV route. In light of rising oil prices, global warming and stricter emission norms the EV makesĀ more sense. Back in2009 the Swift was designed on the plug in hybrid concept and that was in collaboration with Volkswagen. But given the fact that the said partnership is very much on the brink of danger the concept did not materialize.
And now the Suzuki engineers have really pulled up their socks and will be showing off the EV concept at the Tokyo motor show. The car will be capable of an electric range of 11.2 miles for daily commute but in the case you run outta charge, the range extending gasoline engine kicks in to charge your battery. the cool part is that the engine is independent of the drive and hence can run at an optimum rpm to charge the battery that will power the battery. The battery in turn powers the motor that propels the car.
The car is not an all electric car like the Nissan Leaf and is conceptually similar to the Chevy Volt. Suzuki will not only feature the Swift EV concept but also two other concept cars: The Regina and the Q concept.
Hopefully the car should make it to the assembly lines this time. However we are not sure if the car will make it to the Indian shores.
