VW launches Polo Bi-Fuel (LPG-Petrol) in Europe

May 14th, 2010

Volkswagen has launched a BiFuel variant of its popular Polo compact car in Europe. The Polo BiFuel can run on either Gasoline/Petrol or LPG. VW is expanding its range of BiFuel cars with the Polo joining the already launched Golf BiFuel. An LPG tank of capacity 52 litres has taken the place of the spare wheel in the boot while a 45 litre petrol tank remains under the floor. The Polo BiFuel boasts of an impressive range of 640km (400 miles) on LPG and a further 640km (400 miles) on petrol taking the total range to over 1280km.

The 1.4L engine used for this purpose produces 83bhp and returns fuel economy of 12.4km/l while running on LPG and 16.4km/l when the fuel is Petrol. The best part is that the system is an OEM fitment meaning that the warranty is intact. We just wish that VW brings the BiFuel to India as well. Suzuki recalls 10,000 Automatic versions of Altos in Europe

May 14th, 2010

Suzuki Motor Corp is recalling the automatic transmission variants of its compact car Alto (A-Star to Indians) in Europe. Indian A-Stars are safe as Suzuki only sells manual versions in India. Although the exact reason and nature of complaint is not known, the recall is aimed at fixing ‘faulty transmission’. The automatic version only accounts for 10% of sales of the Alto in Europe and a total of 100,000 Altos were sold in Europe last year. No news on the Nissan Pixo is available to us right now although if the Pixo was ever sold with an automatic gearbox, then it would also be a part of the recall too. Suzuki had earlier recalled its Alto/A-Star globally to fix a faulty fuel pump gasket.
