Spied – Honda Jazz/Fit facelift

July 30th, 2010

Honda’s much awaited midlife facelift for the Jazz is  around the corner. The test mule has been snapped in China. The Jazz is a very significant and successful model for Honda worldwide but it hasn’t quite been able to replicate its success in India. Honda say that the Jazz is more expensive to produce than the City. Even then, a price of Rs 8.1 lakhs (on-road for base model in Chennai) puts it out of reach for many. 2 – 3 years ago, we remember Autocar India featuring the Jazz on their cover page and expecting it at Rs 5 lakhs. How things have changed. We do respect the Jazz for it is a brilliant automobile but at that price, we would rather take a City or Linea. The Jazz averages just around 300 units every month.

First real world images of Toyota’s facelifted Corolla

July 10th, 2010

These are the first real world pictures of Toyota’s facelifted Corolla caught in Thailand. The Corolla Altis is presently the best selling petrol sedan in the entry luxury segment and it is expected to oust the Cruze from the numero-uno position once the diesel version of the Corolla Altis is launched in the third week of this month. The Altis diesel is expected to come with a 1.4L 4-pot borrowed from the Yaris. It is expected to produce approximately 90bhp and achieve a Nano-busting fuel economy of over 23 km/l.

That's the sports kit

Also notice the Altis with a sports kit that features spoilers, skirts and single slat grille. Should make a hot special edition for the Indian market.

Nissan reveals facelifted X-trail; Indian journey soon?

July 10th, 2010

Nissan flagship SUV in India, the X-trail has been given a mild facelift abroad along with cleaner engines. The updated model gets an efficient GT20 clean-diesel engine whose power is routed through a new six speed automatic transmission. Although official power and torque figures have not been released yet, Nissan claim that the torque of the 2.0L diesel engine can match that of a 3.5L V6. The exteriors changes seem subtle like the redesigned lights, bumper, grille along with LED daytime running lights and LED tail lights. Creature comforts include a new cooled/heated glovebox while the driver gets to see through larger dials. A vehicle information display has been added for the first time.

The new model is slated to go on sale from July 16 worldwide. We are not sure if Nissan will launch the facelifted X-trail in India immediately. Since it is a CBU, launching the new model is not that difficult. However, to really compete against the Superb and Fortuner, we hope Nissan assemble the Teana and X-trail in India so that the two vehicles appeal to a larger audience.

Hit the jump for high resolution pictures, press release and the new additions to the facelifted X-trail.

Facelifted Chevrolet Captiva coming soon

July 4th, 2010

The Chevolet Captiva was a good looking crossover but Chevrolet have gone on and given it a mid life facelift. We featured spy pictures of the facelifted Captiva undergoing testing and now we have un-camouflaged picture of the Captiva. The front end has undergone a complete transformation and now sports a flamboyant radiator grille on the lines of the Cruze and Beat. We would also like to add that it bears more than a passing resemblance to the Mitsubishi Outlander GT, save for the horizontal slat.

Also new are the rear view mirrors and the vent on the fenders. No information on changes to the interiors or the powertrain. We predict the Captiva facelift to reach India before the end of the year to take on the Toyota Fortuner, which is running away with 60% of sales in the segment.

Toyota Corolla Altis D-4D diesel coming soon to a showroom near you

May 6th, 2010

Corolla Altis will get the 1.4L D-4D from Yaris hatchback

Well, there are manufacturers who have responded quicker to customer queries than Toyota. After being on sale for over five years and shifting a total of over 40,000 units so far, the Corolla is still available with only a 1.8L petrol engine. After all these years, Toyota somehow is considering a diesel Corolla for India. Well that was a long time coming. Toyota finally seems to have understood that there is a market for luxury diesel cars after all and the Corolla diesel is expected to hit Indian shores very soon.

April 20th, 2010

Thanks to Goa on Wheels, we are able to show you what could probably be the final set of spy pictures before Maruti reveal the WagonR themselves on the 23rd. The new WagonR has generated a lot of enthusiasm, as expected of a new small car and being a ‘Maruti’ and ‘WagonR’, which in layman’s terms means ‘India’s no1 manufacturer’ and ‘Practical’ respectively, it is a highly anticipated one as well. We had earlier done an article on the brief history of WagonR and another on the features and speculative pricing which you can read by clicking here. Hit the jump to see all the great pictures. All these spy pictures did miss one thing – rear space including rear legroom and boot space. While we do know that it is bigger than its predecessor, few pictures would have given us a rough idea. Anyways, enjoy the pictures and stay tuned as we will bring you all the news from the launch. Moreover, Wheelosphere was the first to scoop the WagonR facelift way back in December. Read that here.
