New WagonR launched; Prices, Specifications, details and exclusive pictures

April 23rd, 2010

Maruti launched the Second Generation WagonR for India (It is the fourth generation globally) today at a  special ceremony in New Delhi today. This time around, it is not a facelift, but far from it. The new WagonR launched today is based on an all new chassis that features tech like tailor welded blanks and separate sub-frame for the engine and suspension. The new WagonR is also more spacious, powerful and refined but looks a lot like the outgoing version.  Available in three trim levels – Lx, Lxi, Vxi, the prices for which are Rs 3,28,000, Rs 3,58,000 and Rs 3,81,000 respectively, Ex-Showroom Delhi.

We will start our detailed analysis of the new WagonR starting with the Styling. While the WagonR was never a appealing car, it isn’t what you would call ugly either. It has become something regular that you don’t care whether it looks good or not. You are more bothered about the way it serves you. The new WagonR, in our opinion could have sported the nose of the JDM WagonR or even the JDM Stingray version but sadly we dont get them for no reason we can think of. We do understand that this car has a longer front end to accommodate the larger engine but come on Maruti, it could have just been an extension of the nose retaining the JDM front-end. The rear also is nothing to write home about – It resembles the older version with only a chrome finisher for the number plate as the distinguishing feature.

Wheelosphere did exclusive coverage of the new WagonR by scooping a spy picture way back in December 2009. We continued it by briefly covering the history of the model and finally revealing the features with more spy pictures last week. Now, we are the only blog to bring you exclusive hi-res images. Nissan Micra to sport unbeatable price abroad; What about India?

April 22nd, 2010

Auto Evolution reports that the new 4th generation Nissan Micra would be a definite hit worldwide as Nissan plans to price it at an unbeatable level. The prices quoted for the Australian market are AU$ 13,500 which roughly equates to Rs 5.6 lakhs, which AE say are comparable to the prices of Hyundai i20, Holden Barina, Kia Rio and Toyota Yaris. While at that price the Micra has no market in India, the prices for international markets are higher due to import taxes, logistics charges, a longer equipment list and standard safety features like ABS and airbags.

Premier Rio registers over 2000 bookings

March 6th, 2010

Premier Automobiles Limited, the company that faded into oblivion after the good old Padmini and 118NE went out of production, was back with the Premier Rio last year and they have so far registered 2000 bookings. This is impressive considering Premier’s tiny dealer network (34 dealers in 34 cities) and the Rio which is actually a rebadged Zoyte assembled at Premier’s factory. The Zoyte is itself a 1997 Daihatsu Terios for which they bought the manufacturing rights and tooling.

VW to reveal Polo’s price on February 23

February 12th, 2010

The much anticipated and arguable Auto Expo’s most popular car, the Volkswagen Polo will have its prices revealed on February 23. A long time closely guarded secret, the price of the Polo is expected to completely shakedown the market. After extensive localisation, the Polo’s price is expected to start at around the Rs 4.5 lakh mark and stretch upto 6 lakhs for the top of the line petrol 1.6 and diesel.

VW has revealed that only the 1.2L 75bhp petrol will be launched initially followed by a 1.2L 75bhp diesel and a 1.6L 104bhp petrol for those on the lookout for a hot hatch. Polo is expected to set the benchmark in this already crowded segment in terms of quality and overall appeal and if priced right, has the potential to easily cross the 25,000 unit target set by VW for 2010. Aiding this will be the 3 trim levels – Trendline, Comfortline and the Highline and 3 engine options. With its launch less than a month away, its time the Fabia and especially the Jazz started praying.
