Hyundai i10 1.2L VTVT spied in Pune

August 17th, 2010

Thanks to Indian Cars and Bikes, we are able to bring you exclusive spy pictures of Hyundai i10 facelift spied testing in Pune. Hyundai’s i10 completes three years this October and it was about time we saw a cosmetic facelift. One interesting aspect on the spied car is the presence of VTVT (which in Hyundai’s language means Variable timing Valvetrain) badge on the fender. The i10 currently comes with a choice of two engines – A 1.1L iRDE and 1.2L Kappa. At this point, we are not sure if it is the Kappa that will receive Variable Valve timing or an all new engine. The 1.1L iRDE is old enough to be phased out and the grapevine has it that the 1.1L engine could be replaced by an all new 1.0L. Nothing is confirmed at the moment though.

Hyundai Motor India reduces exports to meet local demand

August 6th, 2010

Hyundai Motor India has officially announced that they will cut down on exports and allocate 70,000 units more in 2010 to satisfy local demand. Hyundai’s current annual capacity at its Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai is 6,00,000 which will be raised to increase production. Hyundai will make the required investment and changes. Hyundai is shifting focus to the local market as global demand slides after scrappage schemes come to an end in Europe. Last year, Hyundai exported as many as 2.71 lakh cars to over 110 countries and plans to export 8% less in 2010.

H.W. Park, chief executive, HMIL said

“We will increase our production capacity by 0.7 lakh units at our factories to meet the rising demand. We will make minor investments for the increase in production capacity. Our export target for this year is fixed at 2.5 lakh units, which is slightly less than last year. We want to focus more on meeting the domestic demand.”

We were just telling you how the Ford Figo has sent the Hyundai i10 searching for cover (which in case you missed, click here) and Hyundai seems to have new plans to build a new plant for making diesel engines using locally sourced components. Crucially for Hyundai, this would keep costs under control and provide some solid competition to the Ford Figo. Hyundai also wants to offer more than one engine option to buyers and specially a diesel to consolidate sales.

“We concluded a feasibility study on a new diesel engine plant in India around three months ago. I think, a decision on that will be taken soon at our global headquarters after due consultations with our executives in India,” a senior official said.
