Tata Nano sales finally started showing upward trend. During last month Tata Nano managed to attract over 5700 buyers, which 10 fold growth compared to previous month. Responding to the sudden demand surge Tata Motors revised the production target of Nano by 50 percent. In December 2010 the production was 200 units daily and in January 2011 the production has gone up to 300 units per day. Again the production levels may go up in coming days. According to news reports Tata Motors is planning to put Nano production on fast track, by March 2011 company planning to achieve 21000 units monthly sales.
Another good sign for Tata Nano is depleting inventory at dealerships. “I asked for 7,200 Nanos more but Tata Motors said it cannot supply such a huge order immediately….while this may have to do with which colours I need more but largely, this shows that the company has been able to sell most of the cars it made in December,” said a Tata Motors dealer in Maharashtra. Considering the past performance, sustaining higher sales is still a difficult task for Nano. But Tata Motors’s dealers are optimistic about it.
“key is to see sustainability (of such production levels) for three months. If Maruti Alto can sell close to 30,000 units in a month, there is no reason why Nano cannot improve sales exponentially,” said an official from an ancillary unit of Tata Motors.
In recent past Tata Motors rolled out many steps to save falling sales of Nano and if the trends are to be believed they have started giving results. The attractive finance scheme for Tata Motors employees including dealership staff got good response from prospective customers within Tata community. According to Sandeep Agarwal, CEO of Delhi-based dealership Him Motors, “Nano sales have picked up in secondary markets in December and under this scheme – which was launched a few days back – even workshop staff is buying these cars. Nano sales have improved significantly in December”.
We are happy to see that Nano sales are slowly picking up, let us hope the trend will go up in coming months as well.
