Tata ousts Hyundai to become India’s 2nd largest car maker

Tata Motors has knocked Hyundai off to become India’s second largest car maker trailing its chief rival Maruti Suzuki. With the production of Tata Nano slowly reaching higher numbers, Tata is looking forward to posting higher sales figures and eventually taking over the top spot from Maruti in the long run. The opening of Sanand plant has certainly played its bit as Tata’s sales got a boost from the Nano which sold 7704 units in June.

Overall, Tata’s passenger car sales stood at 27,811 units against Hyundai’s 27,336. While, we do agree that a single month’s performance cannot be taken as the determining factor, Tata is expected to keep the lead as Nanos numbers continue to rise.
