We all know the leap frog game. The three German automakers work very hard and bring their best vehicles in a specific class which the other one beats with its model. The game never ends. This time though, there is a new entrant into this super luxury class, the all new Jaguar XJ. Ever since its launch, the XJ has been received very well by the motoring world and customers. With such a good model in its arsenal, Jaguar are planning to take the fight to rival camp.
The present BMW 7 series could be called the present leader partly because its the latest and partly because its such a brilliant car, but then its only a matter of time before the next-gen Audi A8 comes along to beat it. Then it should be the turn of the all new S-class followed by the next 7 bimmer. So are Jaguar’s plans too ambitious?
For starters, its a very realistic target given the XJ’s looks. Moreover, the features list backs the vehicle up to form a very formidable competitors to the Germans. Recently acquired by India based company, Tata Motors, Jaguar plans to build as many as 25,000 XJ models annually.
Jaguar’s XJ will be built at the Castle Bromwich factory in England. It is expected to start at Rs 36 lakh ($72,000). Tick all the options on offer and you would need to shell out Rs 58 lakh ($115,000) for the fully loaded model. For India though, add 110% import duties and taxes plus the freight charges and you end up at a huge sum.
Jaguar’s main market should be the United States where BMW has seen tremendous growth in the last 10 years. Jaguar would also take advantage of the emerging markets in Russia, India and China. We will just have to wait for the model to do all the talking though.
