Tata Nano scores the least in TNS India Total Customer Satisfaction survey 2010

Tata Nano Fire Incident

This could be one of the most  disappointing news for Tata Motors and   in particular to Nano. According to recently published TNS India customer satisfaction survey Tata Nano scored the least in entry level small cars. While Nano scored the least Maruti Alto, and Maruti 800 secured top two slots.  Tata Nano scored 70 points Maruti Alto managed to score 91 points.

“In a year of high growth and long queues at the automotive dealerships the auto manufacturers maintained their poise and managed their processes to keep their customers satisfied, ” said Pradeep Saxena, Executive Director, TNS Automotive. “It was a challenge for the manufacturers to not only retain their waitlisted customers but to also keep them happy. Due to the high growth, there was also a pressure on the supply of components and the workshop capacities,” he further added.

This year TNS Automotive has been compiled Total Customer Satisfaction (TCS) report after studying response from 9300 new car buyers  covering 56 car models. The parameters considered for study are sales satisfaction, product quality, vehicle performance and design, after sales service, brand image, and cost-of-ownership. This year’s study revealed an interesting point, customer satisfaction level increases in proportion  to  cost  of the car. In other words Upper Premium Compact, Premium Midsize and Premium SUVs are among the highest scoring segments. Another finding of the study is customer’s from smaller cities are relatively less satisfied compared to their peers from bigger cities.

Recently reported fire incidents may be the reason behind Tata Nano’s poor scoring in its segment.  Nano scored less in  Northern parts of India compared to other parts, this could be an indication of problems in  after sales support as cars are becoming aged. Tata Motors had initiated  many steps to improve the sale of  Nano. If they work well probably next year Nano may improve the score.

Please refer the table for the list of  top rated cars in other segments.
