Toyota to delay Liva launch

Toyota-Etios-Liva-hatchback

Toyota’s most awaited first hatchback in India, Etios Liva is delayed by two months. Etios sedan received enormous number of bookings which has created a long waiting period just like the Fortuner. But unlike Fortuner, Toyota cannot stop bookings of Etios every now and then. Toyota says that it cannot let create inconvenience for its customers by launching the Liva and delaying the manufacturing Etios sedan more and thus adding to the delivery time of its customers.

In a press release, Toyota stated, “We thank our customers for the response we have received for the Etios and also for the patience shown through the waiting period. We would also like to sincerely apologize, to people eagerly awaiting the hatchback – Etios Liva, for the postponement of the launch. We will do everything we can to limit inconvenience caused to our customers.”It was planned to start production of Liva by February-March 2011 by adding second shift, but now seeing at the huge demand and bookings of Etios sedan, it seems that Toyota will utilize the second shift for sedan only.

Some dealerships have got more than 50% cancellations and Toyota doesn’t want that more to happen. Etios will also get 1.4L diesel heart, the one of Corolla Altis diesel in late 2011. Etios Liva will get 1.2L and 1.5L petrol options. 1.4L diesel might come, but there are no statements on that at present. Liva is now expected in June 2011.
