India welcomes Toyota Etios with over 3000 bookings!!!

Toyota Etios Sedan

Toyota Etios sedan debuted in India on last Wednesday. Indian customers welcomed Etios with over 3000 bookings within first two days of it’s launch. To be more precise Toyota Etios sedan managed to gain 3077  bookings since it’s launch on 01.December.2010. Etios was a hot discussion topic among domestic and international media as this is the first small car made by  Toyota. The credit for this overwhelming response goes to Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited (TKML) for pricing Etios aggressively. The base variant Toyota Etios J comes at Rs.4.96 lakhs while the top end (Toyota Etios VX) has been priced at Rs.6.86 lakhs.

Toyota dealers started accepting bookings of Etios by charging Rs.50,000. Delivery of Etios sedan will start by January 2011. Etios is powered by a 1.5l DOHC engine that can produce a peak power of 90PS  with a maximum torque of 132 Nm. Currently only a five speed manual transmission on offer, but an autobox may join soon. A diesel motor powered Toyota Etios is in works but there is no confirmed launch date as of now. The 1.5l gasoline engine can yield a maximum fuel efficiency of 17.6km/l, which has been certified by ARAI.

Etios hatchback,  Toyota Liva will be debuting in April 2011. The price details of Etios Liva will be disclosed after Union Budget. “By the end of March next year or April beginning we will launch the Etios Liva and deliveries will start from April. We will take a call on pricing after the Budget,” said Mr.Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Marketing, TKML.

Toyota India is planning to sell over 70,000 units of Etios in India, after witnessing the initial response we think Etios will easily surpass the expectations of it’s creators.

    • @Mandeep,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Waiting for dream car for seven months after booking is terrible. But Toyota themselves might have surprised to see the response to Etios sedan. It has already crossed 12K booking and counting.
If Toyota has committed February, don’t worry they will adhere to that. In worst case there may be slip of few days.

For your information Toyota has already started mass production of Etios in India on 31st of December 2010.

We would be happy to see you again here with your review.
