Toyota halts taking orders for Fortuner after just one month

All the folks got excited when Toyota announced after six months that they would reopen bookings for its Fortuner in July. That was almost six months after it closed bookings. Now, after just a month, Toyota’s has stopped accepted bookings for the Fortuner. Through the month of July, the Fortuner has registered 3,004 bookings (That’s an average of over 150/working day for a ` 20 lakh SUV!). The backlog for the Fortuner currently stands at over 6,000 units. With a monthly production of just 1,000 units, expect to wait till December if you are the 6000th customer.

The latest Toyota is expected to accept orders for the next batch is January 2011. Till then, just hope that they ramp up production and make more of the SUV that India just can’t get enough of.

PS – Reminds us of the Tata Nano’s sales process.
