Toyota to launch Altis diesel in July

We scooped Toyota’s plans to launch the Corolla Altis with a diesel heart couple of months back and we now have confirmation that Toyota will indeed launch the Altis Diesel in the third week of July. The Corolla, which currently leads its segment in terms of sales will now offer formidable competition to the Cruze. What will tilt the scales in favour of Toyota is its impeccable reliability, quality and a brilliant diesel engine that has achieved over 21km/l at ARAI.

The engine, although underpowered compared to the Cruze, still produces 90bhp from a turbocharged 1.4L, borrowed from the Yaris hatchback. Helping the economy is a 6-speed manual gearbox. It will be available in three trim levels with an approximate increase of Rs 75,000 to 1,25,000 above similarly specified petrol variants. To distinguish it from the petrol variant, the new Altis diesel will get Prius like front bumper and new lights. Book yours as soon as it is launched as the Altis diesel is expected to attract huge queues at the showrooms.

  1. I would rather go for a Laura diesel entry variant. Altis Petrol itself has a higher cabin noise as compared to other cars in the segment. Diesel could be noisier.

      Dear Ajith,

Thanks for your comment. We know you drive a Altis Petrol and you are sharing your own experience. So we have to agree with you without a second thought.
