US F1 collapse on cards; Stefan GP all set to replace US F1

Its been a rollercoaster ride for US F1 so far. Their enthusiastic start was hit by roadblocks and media news saying that the team would shut down following reports that it put its headquarters on sale and Youtube founder Chad Hurley shifting funds to Campos Meta. US F1 then replied showing that there was still life in the team. They replied that they will be on the 2010 grid but might miss the first four races, but fresh reports have emerged that hint at the demise of the team even before turning a wheel. US F1 are expected to end their F1 campaign after failing to secure the required funds to compete in the 2010 season.

US F1 are believed to have underestimated the amount of funding required to make it to the grid. That said, the team’s founders Ken Anderson and Peter Windsor are yet to comment on these reports. We are expecting an official announcement sometime soon. Earlier, the two founders have already confirmed that the team has asked the FIA for permission to miss the first four races of the season, but this is unlikely to have been granted as it breaches the Concorde Agreement signed by US F1 and F1’s other 12 teams.

Argentine touring car driver Jose Maria Lopez is the only driver signed by US F1, but going by reports, he is set to follow Chad Hurley to Campos Meta. Lopez is expected to partner Bruno Senna. Although Campos has missed the official tests, Team Principal Colin Kolles has confirmed that the team will be present at the starting grid in Bahrain. Campos’ immediate rivals Lotus and Virgin have completed extensive testing.

This has given a big chance to Serbian team Stefan GP which plans on using Toyota’s 2010 chassis developed last year.
