Vento like it’s hatchback sibling, Polo making news interms of booking. Within three weeks of it’s launch, VW Vento secured 4000 units bookings in India. VW Polo hatch also ruling a waiting period of one month and company is struggling to cope up with market demand. VW India’s plant in Chakan, Pune is sharing the line between Skoda Fabia and VW Polo Hatch. There is very less room to stretch the resources further as company is already working in two shifts.
According to Neeraj Garg, who is member of board and director-VW Passenger cars at VW Group Sales India Pvt.Ltd. the initial response to Volkswagen Vento Sedan car is greater than what was there for Polo. Since the launch of Polo, company has received approximately 19000 bookings out of which the company has only been able to deliver 11000 units approximately. Company is working hard to clear the backlogs of Polo, it has already started second shift production in Chakan plant of Pune. The Backlogs are expected to clear as more volumes are being rolled out now.
VW Vento was launched in India after immense amount of market researches. Finally it has been started giving results. Vento was developed considering segment leader Honda City as benchmark. Vento has got distinct advantage over Honda City interms of interior space, engines ( Honda City diesel variant is still a distant dream !) and pricing.
Scoring 4000 units in sedan segment is not a joke. We think Honda, Fiat, Ford and Hyundai must have taken a serious not of it. Let us see how VW Vento performs in coming months and what is VW India’s plans to make sales and service network capable to handle this situation.
