Yamaha denies rumours of relaunching RX100

Yamaha Motor Private Limited, India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Company has categorically denied reports circulating in the media of a possible relaunch of its iconic RX100 motorcycle. Premier automotive publication Business Standard has recently reported that the Japanese bikemaker is currently looking for various opportunities including style, engine type and other factors before launching it. Business Standard also claimed that the company will maintain the same design of the earlier bike that provided some impressive results in the 1985 till 1996, adding that the new Yamaha RX100 will comply with the stricter emission norms and might sport a BS 4 4-stroke engine.

“There are no plans on relaunching of RX100. We are monitoring the market of entry level segment bikes and will inform you about the new product launches at appropriate time.” told Pankaj Dubey, national business head, India Yamaha Motor Private Limited, adding that “We cannot launch the RX (100) with a two-stroke engine but we are working on a four-stroke version for the bike.”

Well, that clears things up a bit. It will come as sad news to enthusiasts but stricter emission norms will mean that the RX100 will remain a bike from the past. With Yama making a statement that it is working on a 4-stroke model of the RX, we have started our dreams already. A performance oriented 100cc 4-s would be no match for the older model but in the present conditions, it could be a dramatic change from the current crop of economy oriented bikes. With exciting models already boosting Yamaha’s sales, the expectations have only increased. Lets wait and see what they eventually launch.
