Yamaha India is in the process of pruning their products line up. One day after the launch of three new models, company announced that three commuter segment bikes, Alba, G5 and Gladiator have been withdrawn from the market. An official statement said company has already discontinued the production of these three models from April this year.
“We decided to not update the Alba, G5 and Gladiator as per the new emission laws, because the sales were low anyway. Although production has stopped, the bikes are still in some small markets as we’re clearing our inventory. We’ve recently launched the YBR 110 as a replacement for the Alba and G5, while the YBR 125 will now replace the Gladiator,” Mr Pankaj Dubey, National Sales Head, Yamaha India.
Yamaha India took this decision considering poor response from the market. For the past few months Yamaha India is in a product launching spree. Most of them are mix and match of same engine with different body styles and addition or deletion of various styling elements. Yamaha India is putting their best effort to gain a considerable share of commuter bike segment.
We think this is a good move from Yamaha. Instead of offering many similar products in same segment launching a nice bunch of sensible products will be worth in long term. So will Yamaha India succeed in their mission? Difficult task yet possible one.
