Yamaha Motor India must be wondering, their competitors manage to clock new heights interms of sales volumes. But they are unable to make huge leap in sales figures. Today Yamaha launched a refurbished version Gladiator, which we think Yamaha’s attempt to gain some volumes in commuter segment. The Gladiator, no doubt is a stunning bike, which got excellent styling, features and a refined engine. Even after holding such merits it failed to revamp sales.
Yamaha SS125 appears to be another variation of Gladiator. Gladiator is a sporty bike which aimed at college goers and those who are in their early twenties. Yamaha with SS125 wants to address the needs of officer goers, that means a combination of good 125cc (124cc to be more precise) engine and moderate styling. When comparing to elder sibling Gladiator, SS125 is smaller by 75mm in length but grown by 10mm in height. The overall width of the both the bikes remains same. The dimensional changes caused 3kg weight loss for Yamaha SS125. That means Yamaha SS125’s fuel efficiency may go up by few kilo meters comparing to Gladiator.
Yamaha redesigned the stickers and paint scheme of SS125, so the appearance of SS125 looks more attractive and fresh. Other than above said changes SS125 got an edge on fuel storage capacity. It can store 13.6ltrs of fuel, which is 0.6ltr more than that of Gladiator. All other standard features of Gladiators are being carried forward to SS125. The price of Yamaha SS125 is Rs.56,000 (OTR,Pune).
So let us watch sales figures for next few months and conclude whether SS125 is capable to bring some volume for Yamaha India in commuter segment.
